What it is
"Bookish" nightstand
Why I built it
I was using a bar stool for a nightstand. It was rather inconvenient.
Where did the design come from?
I've seen a a table like this in a couple of catalogs. I was attracted by the large shelves and the "X" sides.
What's it made of?
It's made mostly of select white pine. The shelves and back are paint grade plywood and the green portion of the top is birch ply. The shelves are edge banded with birch.
Construction techniques
Pretty simple really. The whole thing is held together with faceframe biscuits. I think I used about eight inch and a quarter finish nails in the back and bottom shelf combined. The top is held on with eight #8 inch and a quarter woodscrews.
What's the finish?
The shelves and inner portion of the top were painted with Glidden interior satin latex enamel. The whole piece was then covered with four coats of water-based urethane.
